Jamie Donley, Luca Gunter and Brandon Austin today met with children & families from Make-A-Wish Foundation Korea during our pre-season tour visit to Seoul.
Make-A-Wish Korea was founded in December 2002, the foundation's 26th overseas branch, and has 1,500 volunteers granting wishes to about 300 children suffering from incurable diseases every year.
Our captain Sonny has supported the charity in the past when, in the lead up to the 2018 FIFA World Cup, he met with Sang-ho, a boy battling paediatric cancer, whose wish was to meet him through Make-A-Wish Korea.
Donley, Gunter & Austin joined a football session run by our Global Football Development programmes for 13 children from the charity, which included basic non-contact technical drills
Seung-gi, a 12-year-old child with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia who participated in the event, said, "meeting Tottenham Hotspur has given me more confidence and determination in my treatment," and expressed his gratitude by saying, "I sincerely thank Tottenham Hotspur and Make-A-Wish Korea for providing such a special experience."
The players also spoke with the children & families about their time in Korea, before taking part in photos and a signing session with the delighted participants.
Jamie Donley said: “It has been a great day. To be part of this football session with Make-A-Wish, and to have had the opportunity to share in such a joyous experience with the kids, was really special.”
Mr. Young-dae Song, Secretary-General of Make-A-Wish Korea, expressed gratitude to the Club for organising such a special day with the children battling life-threatening illnesses. He added, "we will continue to support and cheer for Spurs players and their outstanding performances in the future."
Support for local charitable causes is a key part of what we do on tour. The Club recognises the unique, positive impact we can make on the lives of children and families going through unimaginably difficult times and we are proud to show our support for the incredible work Make-A- Wish Foundation do to bring joy to sick children.
Through our partnership back home with Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice, as well as through our own charitable Foundation, the Club has been committed to providing life-changing opportunities through sport for some of society’s most vulnerable groups.
